6 Unusual Places To Go in Turin

6 Unusual But Fun Places To Go In Turin

Here is a list of 6 unusual places to visit in Turin: They are unusual for many reasons, one being that they may not be at the top of the list of tourist guides, and the other being that people may not think that they are worth visiting. Anyhow, I hope that you find an unusual place to visit from this list of 6 unusual places to go in Turin.

1. Superga

Located on a hill overlooking Turin is the Superga Basilica. While the yellow exterior is captivating, only the locals know the history and details that went on within its walls.

The basilica is the resting place of the House of Savoy family. The location is exceptional and offers a bird’s-eye view of Turin. The panoramic terrace offers magnificent views of the Alps; this is the perfect place to take a photo.

There are three different ways to get to the top of the hill:

  1. Hike; there are a few hiking paths that will take you from the bottom of the hill up to the Basilica.
  2. Drive/ motorbike Relax and enjoy the winding roads and the breathtaking views.
  3. The Sassi Superga cable cart takes 18 minutes to get to the top of the hill. I recommend that you try this.

2. Parco del Valentino

I adore this park! I have made memories there, having picnics with friends while watching the sunset. Parco del Valentino isn’t just another city park; it is a park. It’s full of history and charm, and its beauty is blended seamlessly into the city. It has the most beautiful fountains and statues; it is a great place to take a few snaps.

As well as relaxing amongst the greenery, you will witness people skating, jogging, and riding around the park. The thing that is most unusual about Parco del Valentino is the Borgo Medievale, a reconstructed medieval village complete with cobblestone streets and artisans’ workshops. This sounds fantastic, right? There are plenty of kiosks dotted around the park that sell snacks and cold beverages.

3. Lavazza Museum

Coffee lovers, jump for joy! At the Lavazza Museum, you will find coffee history and culture. This isn’t your average museum experience; it’s an interactive journey through Lavazza’s history. The story behind the founder is inspiring. You will come across classic coffee machines and immersive exhibits showcasing Italian coffee culture. Don’t forget to stop by the bar for free, fresh coffee samples. It’s one of those unusual things to do in Turin that blends education with delight.

4. Fiat Factory (Lingotto)

This is not your everyday factory tour; the former Fiat factory is located in Lingotto. It is an architectural genius-turned-shopping center. Its rooftop track is a testament to its automotive legacy. It is a must-see.

Today, you will find an array of shops and restaurants in the old Fiat factory. The acclaimed Pinacoteca Giovanni e Marella Agnelli art gallery also resides here, making it a perfect mix of history and modernity.

5. Monte dei Cappuccini

If you are looking for a blend of nature, history, and spirituality, make your way to Monte dei Cappuccini. This hill offers a peaceful, romantic escape from city life. Be sure to visit Santa Maria, a late Renaissance-style church. The terrace provides breathtaking views of Turin. I highly recommend that you go during the sunrise and sunset. It’s a calming and unusual spot that feels like a hidden gem.

6. Porta Palazzo Market

You can find me here every weekend, shopping for fresh fruit and vegetables. Porta Palazzo Market is filled with life and excitement. It is Europe’s largest open-air market, and you will find all types of produce from the many stalls that they have. There is a mix of cultures and cuisines, with a few tourists and expats like myself in the mix.

The stalls are usually overflowing with fresh produce, spices, and clothing; this makes for a shopper’s dream.

Make sure to wear comfortable clothes, and remember to bring money with you.
